Vav Auto is a fullstack web application I built to digitalize the management of orders for an auto parts shop with an annual revenue of around half a million euros. The shop was run relying only on good old-fashioned notebooks. The challenge was to build something that has speed and flexibility, just like paper. It seems simple in theory, but building this app made me realize how much we take for granted the simplicity of paper. On a piece of paper, you can write anything, anywhere, you can immediately erase it or even throw it away. It's so easy to use and so fast. Doing the same thing on a computer meant to make clever use of space, of keyboard shortcuts and of a clean interface.
I then took VAV Auto one step further by leveraging the data gathered from previous orders, so that if a customer orders a part that passed already through the database, the system will autocomplete the order form, provided that the car model and year are the same. This will save the shop owner a lot of time and effort, and will also make it less likely for him to make mistakes.
This project was built with:
SvelteKit for speed, simplicity and SSR
TailwindCSS for design
Supabase for the database and auth
ChartJS for statistics
jsPDF to generate PDFs
